Rebel Wolves has detailed update 1.1 for The Blood of Dawnwalker, and the patch is expected to roll out next week. It brings a new, gentler Story mode, a potion for resetting your abilities, and the ability to pet dogs and cats. The studio shared the patch notes on X on October 16.

The vampire RPG launched on September 3, 2026 on PC, PS5 and Xbox, according to Gamebonk's release tracker. PC Gamer reports that it sold 1 million copies in its first three days.

New difficulty, respec and petting

The headline change is to difficulty. The setting previously called Story is being renamed Forgiving, and a separate new Story mode sits alongside it with additional combat assist. It is aimed at players who would rather focus on the narrative and their choices than learn the game's swordplay.

The Draught of Mind Rebirth is a respec potion. Drinking it wipes your Swordmastery, Witchcraft and Vampirism abilities so you can put that investment into a different set.

Animal petting is built on the game's directional combat system. The studio summed it up on X as "Directional. Animal. Petting." PC Gamer notes that Rebel Wolves gave no further detail about how it works.

Subtitles are getting more options too: a larger font size and subtitles for every line of dialogue.

Combat, camera and technical fixes

The patch notes also list these changes:

  • Better targeting, locking onto and disengaging from enemies
  • Adjusted animations and camera movement in combat
  • More responsive targeting and surface attachment when using Shadowstep and Planeshift
  • An update to the FrameGen technology, including dedicated settings
  • Uncensored blood and gore in the Japanese version on Steam

On top of that, Rebel Wolves lists more than 1,100 other improvements and fixes. Eurogamer says several of the changes match what game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz described to the outlet last month.

PC Gamer doubts the update touches the game's divisive time mechanic, which the studio has said might not return in the sequel. That follow-up is already in development at Rebel Wolves.
