Total War: Shogun 2 - Complete Edition launched on October 13, and by October 15 Sega and Creative Assembly were pulling it from sale. Neither company has said when it will return. In a statement posted to X, the companies said the remaster "has fallen short of both your expectations and our own standards."
"We've seen your feedback, comments, and reviews. We agree that the current experience is not where it needs to be," the statement continued, according to Eurogamer. Sega and Creative Assembly said they are working "with platform holders to temporarily remove the game from sale and to reinstate the original game while we investigate the issues." Anyone who already bought it keeps it: "Existing owners will still be able to access and play the game."

Complaints about bugs and AI upscaling
The Complete Edition remasters the 2011 strategy game and bundles it with all of its DLC. According to The Verge, it promised "improved visuals," "1440p and 4K UI scaling," and modernized controls. After launch, players reported bugs and upscaling they believe was done with AI, The Verge reports, and Reddit posts have collected artwork that users think AI mangled.
The statement never mentions AI and does not describe the problems. Eurogamer notes that many fans still see AI as the root cause, pointing to what they call "hokey upscaling" and other suspected signs of generated art.

Steam reviews collapsed within days
On Steam, the game fell to an "Overwhelmingly Negative" rating soon after release. Eurogamer reports that only 15 percent of its more than 4,000 reviews were positive. The store page now tells visitors the game "is no longer available on the Steam store."
Sega and Creative Assembly say they are "working closely with our development partner to identify the causes of these problems, deliver improvements," so that the Complete Edition reaches "the quality standards players expect from Total War." No date has been given for its return to sale.
